Looking Back 2016

Yet another successful year for MCB.

In 2016 we redefined the definition of “member” by introducing an annual membership fee of £10.However casual attendees are still very welcome for a contribution of £3 per meeting towards club funds. It is nice to see members from other regional groups attend our meetings occasionally and a number of us reciprocate by attending meetings held by the other regional groups.

We have also continued to attract various sponsors and our thanks to all of them for their support. Our finances are currently in a very healthy position which has enabled us to reward our members with discounts on MCB clothing, ingredients etc.

We continue to attract new recruits and it is pleasing that a number of our “newbies” are doing well in our competitions. On a National level, members have continued their 2015 successes with prizes in the various competitions.

We had 2 socials during the year as well as a brewery trip to Charnwood Brewery in Loughborough.

The Midlands is quite a large area and we try to hold meetings to reflect where our members live. It is particularly important to keep a balance between the East and West Midlands whilst at the same time taking into account the availability of good transport links. Some members have long journey times on occasions and we value their commitment. Our long established practice of having a different chairman for each meeting continues to be successful, bringing diversity to our various meetings. My thanks go to Peter, Ian, Nick and Bruce for undertaking this task in 2016.

MCB is very much a “club” in the true sense of the word. We are a very democratic organisation, and although we operate on a very informal basis, new ideas are welcome and encouraged. In particular any member can raise any issue they like at any of our meetings.

Looking forward to 2017, our membership is continuing to grow and we have a number of events already on the drawing board.
